TV Bars We'd Like to Drink In + McGee's Pub: the HIMYM Bar

TV Show Bars We’d Like to Drink In
By Jaya Daniel

Have you ever watched a show and think how much fun it would be to hang out at the same bar as some of your favorite TV characters? From celebrating special occasions, to unwinding after a tough day, it’s nice to have a go-to spot that you can call your own, and some of our TV favorites had some really great places to hang out in. Let’s kick off St. Patrick’s Day with the five TV bars that seem like a great place to grab a drink!

Cheers, Cheers
Though Cheers may not be the household name it once was, this Boston bar still holds a place near and dear to my heart. It’s the original home away from home, where people come to be with their second family -- and not in the illicit ‘daddy has a second family’ kind of way -- and everyone knows your name. Admit it…there’s a part of you that wants to scream ‘Norm!’ every time a regular walks into your favorite bar.

Moe’s, The Simpsons
Moe’s may not be the classiest joint, and have one of the most pathetic bar owners there is, but it seemed like a relaxing place to visit after a day’s work -- or in Homer’s case a long day’s nap -- at the power plant. Sometimes it’s nice to go to a place where you can sit back, enjoy a Duff beer and talk your problems out with a man who’s got it worse than you.

Paddy’s Pub, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Though a dirty hole in the wall bar that is owned by the most ridiculous group of misfits, Paddy’s Pub has been everything from a gay bar to a gambling parlor, as well as home to talent shows, modeling competitions and live bands. You may need a tetanus shot after leaving, but you’ll be sure to have an interesting time while there.

Snakehole Lounge, Parks and Recreation
Co-owned by Tom Haverford, you should expect nothing short of great music, an extravagant environment and ridiculous drink titles, like snake juice, at the Snakehole Lounge. And, with drinks strong enough to get Ron Swanson drunk, it seems like the perfect place to celebrate or just have a fun night out with friends.

MacLaren’s Pub, How I Met Your Mother
This go-to spot for Ted and his friends was a fun local hangout that was so inviting you felt like you were part of the gang. With it’s comfy booths and low-key environment, it seems like the perfect place to meet up with friends and unwind after a long day. MacLaren’s Pub is the type of place you’ll love to call your own.

Grab a Guinness this St. Patty’s Day at MacLaren’s -- err McGee’s -- Pub!

In 250 Characters or Less:
Wishing you could enjoy a pint of Guinness at MacLaren’s this Thursday night with Barney Stinson and Lily Aldrin? Well you may not be able to meet up with your fave HIMYM characters, but you can still drink that pint at the real deal -- McGee’s Pub.

What Works:
Manhattan is known for its tiny cramped pubs. Well that isn’t the case with McGee’s. This bar covers three full floors and offers a wide variety of draft beers. This is THE place for anyone who loves How I Met Your Mother. In addition to the above-average pub grub of dishes like Corned Beef Reuben and McGee’s Beef Chili Nachos, patrons must try the “Slutty Pumpkin” (Pinnacle Pumpkin Pie Flavored Vodka + Ginger Ale), “The Naked Man” (Bulleit Rye Whiskey + Ginger Ale Club Soda + Lemon Juice), and “The Pineapple Incident” (Captain Morgan, Parrot Bay Pineapple + Pineapple Juice & Grenadine + Cherry). And don’t miss out on How I Met Your Mother Mondays… Check out the “Woo” Wings, The “Bro Code” Combo, Suit Up Sandwich, and the No Questions Asked pasta.

Be Aware:
It’s the “HIMYM bar” in Manhattan. Yes, it is big; but no, you will not get the same table every time you visit (unlike the crew of HIMYM on the show).

Get You in the Mood for Valentine’s Day: TV Couples that Melt Your Heart & Frisky Foods to Bring Out a Friskier You - Part 1

Every TV show has an “it” couple that people are unequivocally devoted to seeing stand the test of time…or at least live happily ever after in their TV universe. From Buffy and Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Mindy and Danny on The Mindy Project -- I couple I absolutely hate, but most seem to love -- to Ross and Rachel on Friends, every couple has a fan following that makes them excited to think about love, either because it symbolized what they are looking for or wish they had. Here are some TV couples that not only overcome obstacles, but find a way to not let life get in the way of love.

Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly, The Office
Pining for Pam for three seasons, Jim was the ultimate hopeless romantic. And all his patience paid off as Pam eventually allowed herself to succumb to her feelings for Jim, which started one of the sweetest relationships in TV history. Friends first, Jim and Pam built a strong foundation for their relationship, which only made their romance that much more lovable. They are the couple you think of when you imagine soulmates, as they complement each other in way that is both sweet and inspiring.

Logan Echolls and Veronica Mars, Veronica Mars
Veronica Mars has a fan following not like any other. Fans even funded the production of Veronica Mars: The Movie, raising over $2M through a Kickstarter campaign. But, more than an interest in seeing our amateur sleuth all grown up, was a desire to see Veronica and Logan back together again. While hitting a rough patch by the end of the series, it was easy to see there was no love lost between these two.

Jamie and Claire Fraser, Outlander
Literally standing the test of time, Jamie and Claire are a rare couple, as Claire is a time traveler who finds herself thrust back 200 years in the Highlands of Scotland. Lost and alone, Claire finds refuge in the arms of Jamie, which soon blossoms into love. With time and a doomed future pitted against them, Jamie and Claire are a couple you love to watch because no matter the hurdles they need to overcome, their love keeps them strong.

Ben Wyatt and Leslie Knope, Parks and Recreation
Leslie Knope was one of the most optimistic and inspirational characters on TV, and unfortunately her quirks made her a bit unlucky in love. But, there is a perfect match for everyone and Ben Wyatt is, without a double, Leslie’s lobster. Ben, a nerdy accountant, awkwardly charmed his way into Leslie’s heart, bringing us a couple that couldn’t be more prefect for each other.

Eric and Tami Taylor, Friday Night Lights
At the center of Texas high school football, Coach Eric Taylor and Tami had their fair share of ups and downs. But difficult players, bratty children and job opportunities that would take them away from their home in Dillon weren’t enough to put a chink in their armor. Good or bad, Eric and Tami were an everyday couple that loved and respected each other over anything else.

Now that we've listed our favorite couples, how about enjoying some of our favorite foods to get you in the mood.

Frisky Foods That Will Lead to a Friskier You

You often hear about “aphrodisiac” foods - foods that get you in the mood for well, let’s say Valentine’s Day - or any day of the week for that matter. You likely think it’s a hoax and that no food could literally increase your sex drive. But, there are foods that are proven to make a real difference, such as chocolate and oysters.
